Lewis Holtby: The Next Big Thing?

Published on by macaulaydaleysportsblog

When it was announced that Tottenham had signed Lewis Holtby from Schalke for only £1.5 million, this has the potential to be a fantastic move for both the club and the player. Aged only 22, Holtby is both young and an enthusiastic player and  will learn from playing in the Barclays Premier League and Tottenham will also benefit from having such a technically gifted player playing for them.

After watching some of Holtby's performances so far this season, playing as one of the three behind the striker he tracks down and presses the ball from the front therefore forcing the opposition into mistakes and helping out the defensive midfielders (usually Dembele and Parker) by pressing from the front.

Holtby is definitely something special as so far he has won three Germany caps, in a team that contains players like Mario Gotze, Toni Kroos, Mesut Ozil and Thomas Muller all playing in the same position as him. Going into international training with these world class players will help him learn as a player and he can use this experience to secure a first team place next season and become a Tottenham legend.

With Villas-Boas making signings like this, it looks like Tottenham are aiming for the future and this is positive because if he continues signing players like Holtby, Tottenham could be challenging for league titles in the future. If they begin to do this and consistently get into the Champions League they can begin to attract the biggest players around Europe and make them a side that teams in Europe fear.

Personally I think that Holtby is something special because this is a special era for German football and the players getting into the national team right now are some of the best in the world. Next season I think that Holtby will be an integral part of Tottenham's season and with his technical abilities on and off the ball, getting him for only £1.5 million could prove to be an absolute bargain throughout the next couple of years.
